❄️Today’s mood❄️ and some photos from the snow day. I’ve lived in NY long enough but I have not seen this much snow accumulation. (I was in Japan in 1996, and though I remember 1976 blizzard that was when I was a kid) I’m on the tail end of a book project and I haven’t even gone to the studio lately to save commute time and be able to work odd hours of the night, but today I couldn’t resist taking a break and going for a long walk in the park before all the fresh snow turns into icy mud puddle mess. #hope you had a nice snow day. ❄️❄️❄️ Image from Happy Prince, Oscar Wilde’s fairytale book from @beehivebooks

On March 20th, 1910, the first strip of THE WIGGLEMUCH by Herbert E. Crowley was published by The New York Herald. The strip, which paved the way for a strange new dream-like comics language, lasted only three months before it was cancelled. Art Spiegelman has caled Crowley's style "one of the great roads-not-travelled in comics history." Herbert E. Crowley was a 20th century illustrator about whom, until the publication of THE TEMPLE OF SILENCE, little was known. Philadelphia artist and researcher Justin Duerr quite literally pulled pieces of Crowley’s work out of the ruins of Crowley’s former home in upstate New York. Duerr made it his mission to rediscover Crowley’s life and his work, and the fruits of his labor can be explored in our art book THE TEMPLE OF SILENCE: Forgotten Works & Worlds of Herbert Crowley. Swipe for a selection of our favorites from the book, which contains over 300 jaw-dropping images of otherworldly shrines, whimsical cartoons, grotesque creatures, nightmares and dreamscapes alongside a detailed 20,000-word biography by @justinduerr, and extraordinary design from @headcasedesign. Justin is now hard at work for us on another project: a monograph about the incomparable Sidney Sime, another mad architect of dream-worlds. Follow the forthcoming project at beehivebooks.com/sime.

Strategy summary

What's working, what to fix, and what to ship next.

TL;DR

Ramp to 3 posts/week immediately: current 0.9/week throttles growth at 18k followers. Crowdfunding pillars deliver: post 15 reel hit 456 likes, post 11 carousel 925 likes, post 27 snow mood 1306 likes. Events and history sustain loyalty, but low cadence wastes peaks like Oz launch cluster averaging 150+ likes vs sales dips at 42 (post 29). Pillar balance covers 90% feed effectively. Leaks in consistency kill algo momentum; hooks like 🔮 Kickstarter alerts prove reusable winners. Prioritize reels and carousels: they own 80% top engagers. Fix by scheduling history Tuesdays, launches Fridays.

Working

5
  • Kickstarter urgency hooks crush: post 9,15 average 300+ likes.
  • High-engagement carousels on launches: post 11 peaks at 925 likes.
  • Event promos build comments: post 19 gets 14.
  • History facts resonate: post 4,23 steady 100+ likes.
  • Giveaways spike interaction: post 6 draws 92 comments.

Risks

5
  • Boost cadence from 0.9 to 3 posts weekly to feed algorithm.
  • Vary content beyond promos: add 20% behind-scenes.
  • Cut low-eng images like post 29; favor carousels/reels.
  • Target evenings for events posts to match festival vibes.
  • Reduce artist quotes without calls-to-action.

Ship next

5
  • Run giveaway like post 6 for next launch to spike comments.
  • Test reels on Tuesdays mirroring post 15 format.
  • Post 3x/week minimum starting with history hooks.
  • Plan event tie-ins quarterly like MoCCA posts.
  • Batch carousels for launches with artist credits.
