Founded in 2021 & based in India, Mei Traditional Fitness is a health and fitness online startup that conducts workshops in the practice of Meipadam & Karlakattai. Mei Traditional Fitness was founded by Priya Darshnee, originally from Tamil Nadu, and now based in Abu Dhabi. With a rich background in the IT sector, Priya moved to Abu Dhabi for work. However, after experiencing health issues such as numbness, blurred vision, balance, fatigue, nervousness, random pains all over the body, & many other lingering symptoms, possibly related to autoimmune symptoms, she began seeking natural, holistic solutions. That’s when she discovered Meipadam, an ancient Tamil practice focused on strength, mobility, and energy balance. After practicing it consistently, Priya experienced remarkable relief, her fatigue disappeared, & she became more active and energetic. Inspired by the transformation, she decided to share this knowledge with others & launched Mei Traditional Fitness as an online institute for traditional fitness & healing practices. However, the journey wasn’t easy. “At the time, very few people, even in India, knew about Meipadam and Karlakattai, which are traditional Indian forms of strength training,” Priya tells StartupG in an exclusive interview. But with determination & a dedicated marketing & sales team, Priya ran online campaigns and began offering free trial workshops to spread awareness. She became one of the first women to get certified in Meipadam & Karlakattai training. Over the past four years, Mei Traditional Fitness has introduced this practice to over 4,000 people across the world, offering both live & recorded sessions. “After completing this phase, learners can gradually transition into Karlakattai training,” Priya explains. “Mei has helped transform the health of numerous people, & that is what gives me & my team true contentment,” she adds. Apart from reviving traditional Tamil fitness, the brand has seen consistent year-on-year growth in its revenue. Website - https://meiancientfitness.com/

They called the Desert Rose too exotic, too delicate, not worth the risk. But Jalandhar, a farmer from Eesanam Kuppam village in Tamil Nadu, saw something different — beauty, potential, and a future. Back in 1986, he took a leap of faith. While growing plants for decades, it was the Adenium obesum (Desert Rose) that changed everything. He travelled from Mumbai to Thailand, Taiwan, and Vietnam, learning the art of grafting and hybridisation. With that knowledge, he turned a once-dismissed plant into the heart of a blooming Rs 60 lakh business. Today, his 15-acre farm houses 450+ varieties of Desert Rose, some sold as low as Rs 150, while rare pieces with thick roots are priced up to Rs 12 lakh! These low-maintenance plants need just sunlight and water twice a week — no fertiliser, no fuss — making them a dream for plant lovers. Jalandhar has shipped thousands of these beauties across India and abroad — to Dubai, Jamaica, Mauritius, and more. In fact, in 2015, he exported 1 lakh plants to Dubai alone! Even without online sales now (to avoid fraud), his farm continues to attract plant enthusiasts, collectors, and buyers from around the world. Recognised by the Tamil Nadu Horticulture Department, he received a subsidy of ₹10.65 lakh for infrastructure under the National Agricultural Development Scheme. And he's not done yet — his dream is to open the farm to visitors and inspire others with his journey. From a simple plant to global exports, his story proves that with passion and patience, anything is possible. #desertrose #flowers #flowerbusiness #startupg #StartupStory #indianfarmer #tamilnadu #floriculture #inspiringstories #horticulture #exportbusiness #growwithlove

Meet Meghna Khanna, a creative trailblazer from Bengaluru who saw a small accessory with big potential—and turned it into a statement brand. 🙌 The humble bindi: for many, just a dot, a tradition, something worn without much thought. But Meghna wondered — why can’t it be expressive? Why can’t it be art, heritage, and fashion rolled into one? That question led to The Bindi Project, founded in December 2022. Here’s what makes the journey so special: Meghna bootstrapped the brand with just ₹5 lakh, and today the label has clocked ₹20 lakh in revenue. The designs are artisanal, handcrafted, and built for reuse—not one-time wear. Each piece carries a vibe of tradition but plays with modernity. Her creations are now worn by Bollywood icons like Kajol, Kareena Kapoor, and Tamannaah Bhatia. Yes, they’re that statement. Meghna works with talented artisans and even gives work to single mothers, ensuring each piece is made with skill, care, and purpose. What starts as “just a bindi” becomes so much more: A powerful accessory. A conversation starter. A way to wear culture, not just cloth. Whether paired with a saree, a lehenga, or even jeans—these bindis are made to stand out and stay meaningful. If you believe that fashion can be rich in story, design, and impact, this is a brand to watch. Swipe through the images, tag a friend who loves unique accessories, and let’s celebrate the kind of creativity that doesn’t just follow the trend—it creates it. #startupg #bindi #thebindiproject #womenentrepeneur #statementjewellery

Content pillars

AI-clustered themes the account posts about, with example posts pulled live from Instagram.

  1. 01

    Founder Origin Stories

    40.00%

Long-form reel captions following a single founder's personal pivot from struggle to business success. The emotional arc and specific rupee figures drive shares and saves. This is the account's highest-engagement pillar by a wide margin.

  2. 02

    Grassroots Innovators

    20.00%

Stories about self-taught builders, farmers, and villagers solving real problems with minimal resources. Posts like index 24 and 28 tap into a strong national pride sentiment that generates organic reach beyond the core follower base.

  3. 03

    Startup Product News

    20.00%

Short reel summaries of new product launches, funding rounds, or brand marketing stunts. These post quickly and fill the calendar but consistently underperform on engagement relative to the story-driven pillars.

  4. 04

    Defence and Deep Tech

    10.00%

Coverage of Indian aerospace, drone, and robotics startups aimed at a tech-savvy male audience. Engagement is modest but the niche is underserved, giving the account a differentiation opportunity if production quality improves.

  5. 05

    Workplace and Social Issues

    10.00%

Reels covering viral workplace controversies, policy debates, and industry trends such as AI-driven job loss. The conflict angle generates comments and shares but the format can read as clickbait if not handled carefully.

Strategy summary

What's working, what to fix, and what to ship next.

TL;DR

@startupg.in has a clear winner and it is not being bet on hard enough. Founder origin story reels, particularly posts [0], [2], and [8], are pulling between 20,000 and 52,000 likes while the rest of the feed averages below 2,000. That gap is not a coincidence. The emotional arc format, specific rupee figures, and personal adversity triggers are the engine. Everything else, including defence tech roundups, product news drops, and workplace controversy clips, is filler that dilutes algorithmic momentum without adding meaningful follower value.

The account posts just 2.1 times per week, well below the 5-per-week benchmark for this niche, meaning the high-performing format is being deployed too infrequently to compound. The cadence problem is compounded by format inconsistency. Images like [5] and [16] generate a fraction of the reach that equivalent reel stories would. UGC reposts are minimal at roughly 7%, so the content burden falls entirely on the team.

The single biggest lever is to triple down on the founder origin story reel format, target 4 to 5 posts per week, and retire low-signal formats like image carousels and generic product news until the core engine is fully optimised.

Working

4
  • Founder origin story reels with personal adversity and specific rupee figures consistently hit 20k+ likes, as seen in posts 0, 2, and 8.
  • Hook lines that open with contrast or a provocative question, such as post 1 and post 4, outperform straightforward descriptive openers.
  • Stories featuring unconventional or grassroots innovators, like posts 24 and 28, generate strong share behaviour tied to national pride.
  • Specific numbers in captions, whether funding amounts, cities covered, or monthly earnings, add credibility and stop the scroll.

Risks

5
  • Posting cadence of 2.1 per week is too low. The account needs at least 4 to 5 reels weekly to sustain algorithmic distribution.
  • Static image posts like 5, 16, and 23 consistently underperform. The same story told as a reel would generate significantly more reach.
  • Defence and drone content (posts 12, 14, 15) pulls under 500 likes each. Either upgrade production quality or reduce frequency to one per month.
  • Some captions bury the hook. The strongest emotional detail should appear in the first line, not the third paragraph.
  • No clear call to action pattern across posts. Adding a consistent CTA would improve comment rates, which currently average under 10 per post.

Ship next

5
  • Increase publish cadence to 4 to 5 reels per week immediately, prioritising the founder origin story format proven in posts 0, 2, and 8.
  • Audit the last 90 days and identify the top 5 performing reels, then create a repeatable production brief based solely on those formats.
  • Convert the top 3 image posts into reel scripts and A/B test them within the next two weeks to quantify the format uplift.
  • Add a one-line CTA at the end of every caption, either a direct question to drive comments or a save prompt tied to the story's lesson.
  • Test posting on Tuesday and Thursday between 7am and 9am IST for four weeks and measure average reach against the current baseline.
