On Friday the Minns government introduced legislation letting police plug your phone into military-grade Israeli extraction tech, the same UFED devices used by ICE, and copy everything. Contacts, messages, photos, even deleted files, in minutes. Refuse your PIN and they can brute force it anyway. It also lets them pull unredacted toll camera images into the national facial recognition database, search your device without a warrant, and override your right against self-incrimination. Search these in your settings, no menu hunting: Auto Blocker → turn on Maximum Restrictions. Blocks the USB port when your phone’s locked, so a cloning device gets nothing but charge. Advanced Protection → Device Protection. One switch that locks it all down (Galaxy S22 and newer). Screen lock → ditch the PIN for a long password, turn face unlock off, and use a fingerprint that isn’t your index or thumb. Quick hygiene while you’re there: keep auto-updates on, and never install apps from outside the Play Store. It won’t make you bulletproof, nothing does, but it turns the easy job into a hard one.
